Keynote Speaker Biography: Elizabeth Rumple

Elizabeth is Deputy Director of the Greene County Public Library. She's worked in Ohio public libraries for over 20 years and also worked a few years in the private sector. She joined the Greene County Public Library in 2001 as the Human Resources Officer, where she developed an evaluation system and worked closely with staff on performance management and staff development. She has an extensive background in labor relations, staff training, and various customer service positions in public libraries.

Elizabeth has a BA in Organizational Communications and a Masters in Public Administration, both from Wright State University. She also has a Masters in Library and Information Science from Kent State University.

She is a trained mediator through the Dayton Mediation Center, where she formally volunteered. She also has volunteer experience with Junior Achievement, United Way, and Rebuilding Dayton Together. She is a member of 100 Women of Greene County Making a Difference and Beavercreek Rotary Club.

Her professional associations include: Ohio Library Council; Ohio Public Employer Labor Relations Association; National Public Employer Labor Relations Association; National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration, and Society of Human Resource Management.

Presentation Descriptions:

 

Hitting the Jackpot with Your Performance Review: Performance evaluations are a two-way street, and employee involvement is needed to maximize the results. Learn how to be engaged in the process and work with your supervisor to develop and excel at work.

Supervising Student Workers:Want to know how to heat up your student supervision? We'll heat up the student assistant process when we share tips on hiring, evaluating, appreciating, and terminating student workers. In this session, you will learn tips for advertising open student employee positions, managing the student employee hiring process (including Federal Work Study Student), interviewing students, training and managing student employees, creating a student handbook, evaluating, implementing appreciation incentives, dealing with disciplinary issues and confidentiality, and understanding OHIO-At Will Employment.

Supervising Volunteers: Greater Cincinnati is home to over 390,000 self-identified volunteers. We also have seen a rise in the numbers of "alternative" volunteers including those needing hours for academic programs and public assistance programs. So, it's becoming more and more important that we understand how to work with volunteers, from all ages and backgrounds. In this session, we will explore the best practices of supervising your library's volunteers. We will also discuss the facets of developing and sustaining a successful volunteer team, including recruitment, screening, training, and recognition of volunteers

Overdrive:My library has e-books? Awesome! But setting up Overdrive on my phone or tablet is frustrating. And how do I get books on my Kindle? But the book I want to read isn’t available! Let Bethany walk you through the process of setting up Overdrive and maximizing the app to get e-books when you want them, where you want them. We’ll cover e-books in epub and kindle format and audiobooks too! Overdrive is available for iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows phone, Nook and Kindle. Bethany will demonstrate on an iPad but field questions from other devices (as she’s able).

Apps:This session will introduce personal apps that can help you get more organized and increase your productivity (at work and at home!) This session will include apps for organization, time management, budgeting, photography, travel, shopping, fitness, and other fun and time-saving apps.

Team Player:How do you fit in a group project? In this session, you will find out your own preferred team role by taking a test. You will also learn the different type of group roles, and how you fit in a group project based on your preferred team role. Due to the nature of this session, and we want everyone who is participating to be able to learn from this session there is a limit of 20 people.
