The members are school and public librarians who serve young adults and children.

Competencies Covered By this Meeting Are:

  • Collections for Young Adult
    • Builds a collection designed to meet the needs and interests of young adults
    • Establishes and pursues strategies to stay informed about current and relevant resources to meet young adult's evolving needs
    • Facilitates young adults' requests for information and provides accurate and appropriate answers
    • Connects young adults and their families with resources that encourage reading
How it works: Publishers send copies of their new titles to the ROYAL group. These books are aimed at the target audience of YA readers, grades 7-12. At each meeting reviews from the last set of books are reviewed orally. The participating reviewers get to choose books to read and review for the next meeting. The number of books taken is based on the number of reviewers at the meeting and the number of books received. When the reviewer makes the review active an email with a link to the review is sent to the publisher, and one copy is kept in the archives. The member gets to keep the books that she or he reviews. Most of the reviewers add the books to their library's collection. Most members add close to $1,000 worth of free books to their home libraries. Attendees from Supporting-Member Libraries pay $50.00 annually. All others pay $100.00 annually.
