Inaugural Marantz Picturebook Research Symposium

The late Ken and Sylvia Marantz graciously funded a biannual scholarly picturebook research symposium to be organized and hosted by the Kent State University’s School of Library and Information Science. This Inaugural Marantz Picturebook Research Symposium honors the couple's lifelong dedication to the art of the picturebook.

Registration Fees

  • Early Bird Registration (extended to MAY 2): $200
  • Regular Registration (after May 2): $225

Registration includes access to all keynotes, breakout sessions, exhibits, receptions and conference meals (6 meals over 3 days: Sunday dinner; Monday breakfast, lunch and dinner; Tuesday breakfast and lunch).

You can register for on-campus housing when you register for the conference. Details about housing options are on the Travel & Housing page

  • 5:15 p.m. Registration Opens at Kent Student Center, Rooms 306ABC
  • 6 p.m. Opening Keynote/Dinner: Children’s author and illustrator, Will Hillenbrand

MONDAY, JULY 25, 2016

  • 8-9 a.m. Continental Breakfast
  • 9 a.m. Keynote: Janet Evans, Ph.D.
  • 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. Breakout Sessions
  • 12:15-1:30 p.m. Lunch
  • 1:30 p.m.-3 p.m.; 3:15 p.m.-4:45 p.m. Breakout Sessions
  • 4:45-5:30 p.m. Reception/Poster Session
  • 6 p.m. “Gala” Reception and Dinner 
    • Docent tours by Dr. Carol Wolfenbarger
    • SLIS Tours
