Concrete Programs for Your Community

Save the date! On December 6th SWON and the Xavier Library will be hosting this makerspace workshop! Come to hear what libraries around you have been making and gather ideas. Read below for updates on speakers and presentation topics!

Makers & Shakers: Making Things for Deeper Learning Building on a widespread movement toward using hands-on activities to cement learning new concepts, this workshop will guide you in developing your own classroom makerspace. Perfect for applied learning in science, mathematics and the arts, ‘making’ is also appropriate for projects in English language arts (think: story settings) and social studies (think: historical artifacts).

Drone Building: Ryan Gay, manager of the Lane Public Libraries Tech Center, will be discussing his recent Summer Program giving young adults the opportunity to design and fly their own quadcopters. We'll learn about the fundraising and planning steps that were involved, how they introduced concepts of prototyping into the 3-week program, and what was learned from this program. Ryan will discuss how they used TinkerCAD and a few 3d printers to accomplish such an idea.
