About the Conference

The Anne McConnell Conference for Youth Literature draws librarians, teachers, and other professionals who work with youth to share ideas, examine materials, and meet authors, illustrators, and other leaders in the field of Youth Literature. The 2017 Conference will be held October 20, 2017 in Lexington, KY.  This year's conference theme is "There is Always Hope in a Story."

Venue

The 2017 McConnell Conference will be held at the Hilton Lexington Suites (soon to be Embassy Suites) on the Mall at Lexington Green. Hotel reservations may be placed here.

Registration and Event Costs:

General Admission Only through August 18, 2017: $75

General Admission Only after August 18, 2017: $90

Student General Admission: $15

Dinner/Joy Terhune Memorial Keynote featuring Avi: $42 (not included in general admission, limit 100)

 

Featured Presenters

Avi
Avi has published seventy books and received numerous awards including the 2003 Newbery award for Crispin: The Cross of Lead. Among his other popular books are The True Confessions of Charlotte DoyleNothing But the Truththe Poppy booksMidnight Magic, and The Fighting Ground.

Ashley Hope Pérez
Ashley Hope Pérez  who also teaches world literature at The Ohio State University is the author of Out of Darkness, Recipient of the 2016 Michael L. Printz Honor for Excellence in Young Adult Literature and the 2016 Tomás Rivera Mexican American Children’s Book Award. Other titles by Pérez include What Can't Wait and The Knife and the Butterfly.

Michael Hall
Former graphic designer Michael Hall is the author/illustrator of My Heart is Like a Zoo which made the New York Times bestsellers list and Red: a Crayon's Story which was named to the 2016 Rainbow List and received the 2015 Goodreads Choice Award. His body of work includes such titles as Frankencrayon, It's an Orange Aardvark, and Cat Tale.
