Twitter 101: Why You Need to Tweet to Build a Personal Learning Network

Learn why Twitter is a must for being a connected librarian, building a Personal Learning Network, keeping current with the world, and school library advocacy. Also learn how to get up and running on Twitter easily and start taking the best advantage of it immediately. The webinar will include advice on effective account settings, what to tweet, how to read through tweets, how to select good accounts to follow, how to engage in conversations, and more.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Learn why Twitter is a powerful tool for personal professional development, networking, and advocacy. 
  2. Learn how to set up an effective Twitter account and create postings to attract followers and connect with others.

  3. Learn the best accounts to follow to build an effective network.

Who Should Attend

School library professionals and those interested in the topic who have not yet opened a Twitter account or who want help becoming comfortable using it.

Presenter

Jane Lofton

Jane Lofton recently retired (June 2016) as the teacher librarian at Mira Costa High School in Manhattan Beach, and was selected a 2016 Sandacre Teacher of the Year by the Mira Costa Senior Class. She is a Past President of California School Library Association (CSLA) and Honorary Member, as well as having served in a number of other volunteer positions for CSLA. Currently, she is co-chairing CSLA’s ESSA Task Force. She is also an active AASL member and serving on the AASL 2017 Conference Committee as Social Media Chair, a Google Certified Innovator and Trainer, and a frequent presenter at library and tech conferences. She is a passionate lifelong learner, ed tech Geek, and loves sharing inspiration with students, other librarians, and teachers.

Jane is also an enthusiastic blogger (Jane Lofton’s Adventures in School LibrarylandMira Costa High School Library Blog) and tweeter (@jane_librarian) and has taught several previous online classes on using Twitter.

Attendance during the live webinar is free and open to all. A seat in the webinar is reserved for the first 100 logins.

Access to the webinar archive is available to AASL members and AASL eCOLLAB subscribers.
