SWON Visits - Mount Notre Dame High School

Although only in her second year at Mount Notre Dame High School, Molly Rauch is having an impact on her institution and her students. Molly chose to go with Follett's Destiny Library Manager which seamlessly integrates with her e-book collections from Gale and gives her easy access to the back end.  Like many of you, Molly is a solo librarian who teaches, selects materials, manages a website, supports her teachers and otherwise helps her students all day long. Mount Notre Dame has all students on laptops which will free up some space in the library from what was one of the computer labs.  Molly hopes to make it a group study room and/or quiet space and keep the main space of the library as a collaborative work area - which might sometimes be noisy! A trend which I've seen at some schools, is to have the technical help desk (IT) co-located in the library.  Mount Notre Dame does this and not only does it make sense having all information technology related helpers together, but it seems to me that it facilitates collaboration rather than the harmful siloing so many of us have experienced.
