We’re happy to announce that MidPointe Library System, Anita Carroll, Director, is now a Supporting Member of SWON Libraries. MidPointe Library System includes Middletown, West Chester and Trenton in Butler County, Ohio. Anita is always open to change and collaboration. As one example, she agreed a couple of years ago to a partnership with Cincinnati State Technical College to provide the library support for their Middletown campus. Working with their Library Director from their main campus, Cindy Sefton, the two quickly strategized to develop their working plan. This critical support allows for lower overhead and helps keep costs down for students in that area. Anita really enjoys rising to these opportunities.

On a recent visit with Anita at the West Chester location, I was able to see the new item return sorter in action. The video is my first and the voices you hear are mine and Anita's. To watch/hear please go to our YouTube page:
The machine is really something. It sorts from both the drop-in chute inside the library and from library staff feeding the conveyor belt. Both actions are shown.

Why spend scarce funds on high-tech return equipment? As with other appropriate technology purchases, it allows people to provide services only people can provide and allows machinery to take care of the drudgery.
