SWON Visits – Galen College of Nursing

Galen College of Nursing, Cincinnati, has a new and very experienced librarian in Lucinda Chandler. Lucinda has worked for the State Library of Ohio as an Outreach Specialist and in public libraries in various roles including Branch Manager. She was able to step in and get up and running immediately to support new initiatives at the institutional level. One such initiative is Galen’s online RN to BSN program which represents its first ever completely online degree. And although the program is run from the Louisville location, the librarians meet virtually to make sure that student needs are addressed throughout the system.

Galen College of Nursing has four locations, Cincinnati, Louisville, San Antonio and Tampa Bay. Each location has a librarian and the work is dispersed across the various campuses. It’s an interesting model, one that supports each librarian working to their strengths and saving duplication of effort at each location.

Their facilities are top notch as we know first-hand from last summer’s RDA Workshops. Thanks Galen (and Sue and Lucinda and Judy) for hosting us. We look forward to the next time!
