Last week, our director Melanie was inspired by her opportunity to attend the summer ALA conference in Orlando to talk about how working together makes us stronger. But working together isn’t something we here at SWON are simply talking about – it is also something we are doing.
We strive to forge partnerships with organizations both local, statewide, and even national, to bring you the best content, ideas, training, technology and more. We’ve partnered, for instance, with other state library consortia to trade webinars, to provide a diversity of free training topics for you. We work with vendors to provide you discounts. We invite innovators both local and national to speak to you.
And now we are working on our biggest collaboration yet.
Ohio library organizations are now working together to bring you a statewide library conference in 2018/2019. SWON, along withALAO, INFOhio, OLC, OhioNET, OELMA, NEO-RLS, NORWELD, SERLS, and the State Library of Ohio, needs your input to make this happen.
If you work or live in Ohio, we’d love for you to take some time to fill out a brief survey, letting us know what you look for in a conference and how we can help fill those needs. We don’t just want to collaborate with library organizations to make this conference a reality – we want to collaborate with you.
Sharing, after all, is what libraries and librarians do!
SWON, the Ethnic Librarians SIG, and the New to Libraries Network will be sponsoring this Summer Cookout that will be available and free to everyone! There will be food, music, and games! Invite your family to come along for the fun.
This Summer Cookout will take place at the gorgeous Warren County Armco Park in Lebanon, OH. We'll be grilling at Shelter House #28, which is right next to the lake and a playground for any little ones that join us.
This is a casual event, but please register so we can get a head count for food!

Have new employees who need to learn about OPLIN resources, or longtime staff who could use a refresher? One of our collaborations includes working with the Southeast Regional Library System (SERLS), SWON’s counterpart just to the east, to bring you director Jay Burton’s 30 Minute eClassroom series.
These short webinars are usually held once or twice per month and are geared toward introducing OPLIN databases and resources to Ohio library employees so that they can share them with their patrons.
SWON Supporting Members and employees of Supporting Member libraries may take these webinars for FREE, thanks to Jay and SERLS. We’ll always list them on our calendar, and you can keep an eye out on SERL’s calendar as well. This month, Jay will be focusing on EBSCOhost!
