Start the New Year with a Clean Slate

Heard to believe, but the new year is almost upon us! If you are like me, you see the new year as not only a time to make resolutions and start over with a clean slate, but maybe start out with a clean closet, too. Alternately, the new year might be the time for you to finally get that item you've been wanting or needing for a while.

SWON is here for you either way with our "Swap Meet" forum. Swap Meet is available to all registered users of our site. (Not registered? It's free and you don't have to be an employee of a supporting member library or geographic library to use the feature. So why not register now?)

You can use the forum to list things you want to give away, sell, or trade. We've had everything from books to an entire reference desk listed on Swap Meet!

In the meantime, SWON's been cleaning out our closets, and we've got lots of items up for grabs right now. We've got everything from FREE 3D printer filament, to a uninterrupted power supply that we no longer need at a great price. Interested in creating podcasts? Or maybe want a piece of tech your patrons can use to create their own? (Or just want to own a good recording device?) We've got a nice field recorder that's been gently used and is a steal at $75, or your best offer.

Okay, I admit it, I'm in on the game, too. Yes, you can use Swap Meet to list things you think libraries can use. I've got 3 SD cards at 32 gigs that Amazon sent me by mistake. Get some for your camera for the upcoming holiday season or use them to upgrade what you are using at your library. I'm even trying to unload some of my Library Science texts on RDA, computers, and management... and at cheaper than the cheapest Amazon listing, too.

That's not it, of course. We've got keyboards, and paper, and headsets, and... whatever this thing does, exactly!

But this isn't just our Swap Meet, it's YOUR Swap Meet, so register, post, buy and trade! Ring in the New Year with clean closets and new (to you) stuff!

Small library staff? The ONLY staff in your library? New to technical services? This may be the webinar for you!

Next up: "How-To Wrangle Contracts and Licensing for Your Library." You don’t need a law degree to think like a lawyer! In this webinar, you’ll learn how to customize contracts and develop new ones using templates and standards for each type of contract and service.

Learn the essential clauses and language you should add to or strike from contracts and understand how to negotiate contracts effectively with vendors. Ensure your compliance with government regulations and institutional policies. You’ll see examples, hear stories, and pick up a wide variety of tips and tricks accrued from the presenter’s work with vendors, attorneys, and state agencies.

SWON is pleased to be able to provide PCI Webinars to our Supporting Members for free (and to Geographic Members and everyone else at a reduced price)!
