IFLA Global Vision discussion, Cincinnati area

IFLA is holding a series of Global Vision discussions (globalvision.ifla.org) on the challenges facing the library field from ever-increasing globalization. There is a firm belief that only a united and connected library field will be able to fulfill one of the true potentials of libraries: to build literate, informed and participative societies.

Discussions have been organized at regional, national, and local levels to gather responses for IFLA to collate, analyze, and publish the IFLA Global Vision report in early 2018. Based on the report, the library field will develop concrete work plans on how to put our collective vision of the future into practice.

May Chang of UC would like to organize a local discussion on this and is looking for about 20 participants. The plan is to gather librarians from diverse libraries and interests to discuss/answer a series of prescribed questions related to a vision for libraries, challenges and solutions, and how a united field can make a difference.

Venue: University of Cincinnati, Langsam Library
Date/Time: Friday, June 23, 9am-Noon

If you are interested in participating, please email may.chang@uc.edu by June 12

PCI Webinar - Not Just for Kids: Book Displays for Adults

SWON is pleased to be able to provide PCI Webinars to our Supporting Members for free (and to Geographic Members and everyone else at a reduced price).

Next up: "Not Just for Kids: Book Displays for Adults." Book displays are a great way to fill unused shelves or empty table spaces. But what happens if you have great books and they never get checked out? How could you increase library program sign-ups, support your library’s mission statement, and provide readers’ advisory services on a shoestring budget? How can you make the physical library a place of discovery and entertainment?

You'll create a list of book display resources and: learn how to incorporate passive programming into book displays; identify topics for book displays of interest to library customers; utilize techniques to promote circulation, participation, and readers’ advisory; and promote the library’s mission, goals, and programming.
