Early Literacy Program Training with Mother Goose on the Loose

The time to register for Mother Goose on the Loose is rapidly approaching!

What is Mother Goose on the Loose? It’s based around an interactive baby and toddler storytime program that uses puppets, songs, and rhyme to keep kids engaged and teach early literacy.

In this full-day workshop, you’ll learn how to implement the program in your library and see the great benefits of MGoL for you by:

  • Learning how to present fun activities that help children develop their language, social, and emotional skills
  • Having a flexible program that can be adapted for use with children from birth to kindergarten
  • Getting a template for high-quality programs that are easy to plan and implement on a regular basis

Mother Goose on the Loose promises to provide lots of benefits for your littlest patrons to, such as:

  • Early literacy skills through interactive nursery rhymes
  • A love for learning through music, books, and play that builds healthy bodies and healthy minds
  • Fine and gross motor skills through fingerplays , dances, and physical exercise
  • Social and emotional skills such as taking turns, following directions, showing appreciation to others, developing confidence in themselves and playing with other children

Our workshop “Play your Way to Literacy” will focus on play you can incorporate into your storytimes that also support school readiness. From MGoL: "Play is important, and all children need it!  This lively workshop is both playful and filled with tips on providing playful experiences for the children in our communities. This workshop will provide professional development by building literacy, social and emotional skills through play, exploring the science behind play and its importance in our programs and activities, and practicing multiple ways to include play in story times and circle times."

  • Value of Play- Research and Findings
  • Ages and Stages of Play
  • Play and Storytime
  • The Types of Play
  • Ways to improve the quality of children's play

SWON Webinars: Job Seekers in your Library & Programs in the Park

We've got two great webinars, led by local experts, coming up in the next couple of weeks!

First up, Donald I. Crews, co-facilitator of the Job Seekers group, a joint venture of the Washington-Centerville Public Library and the Dayton Metro Library will discuss the various elements of a modern job search, the resources that are available in your collections and elsewhere and how the library can make people aware of its potential to aid them in their job search. Register soon: This one is taking place on October 3rd at 11am.

Then,  Dave Anderson, Branch Manager of Campbell County Public Library's Cold Spring Branch will discuss their library's successful "Programs in the Park" initiative. Learn some reasons why you might want to take your programs on the road to remote parts of your service area. You can join us October 17th at 2pm to learn more!
