This presentation will not only share the most commonly seen interview mistakes, but give insights on how to avoid them. The patterns discussed come from our combined public library interview panel experience, along with input received from 65 hiring managers from public libraries.

Strategies for acing the hiring process, from the application to the interview
Practical tips to engage your interviewer
Insights on how to best highlight your skills and assets during the interview, regardless of experience level

Presenter(s):

Tracy Kallassy has worked as a hiring manager in several library systems, and is currently Branch Manager of the Shirlington Branch of Arlington Public Library. She estimates she has interviewed at least 500 people for positions in public libraries. Tracy holds a Masters in Library Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Jessica Coffin started her career managing college bookstores, where she first gained insight into the hiring and training process. She later received her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Maryland. She has since worked in three different public library systems, serving on a variety of interview panels.

OLC accepts 1 CEU.

KDLA accepts up to CEU.

ISL accepts up to 1 LEU/TLEU.
