Dayton Metro Library presents
Play with Music, Play with Words

Wednesday, September 19th
8:30 am - 5:30 pm
Dayton Metro Library
215 E. Third St., Dayton, OH 45402

Join children’s musician and author Jim Gill along with storyteller, author and teaching artist Sherry Norfolk for a jam-packed day of interactive learning.

In the morning session, Jim Gill will share examples of his work and discuss how his unique creations in music inspire young children not only to move and sing, but to regulate their movements and make connections between songs and print.  Gill will share strategies to involve adults in music play as well as how to create an inclusive environment for children with special needs.  In the afternoon session, Sherry Norfolk will introduce attendees to the highly interactive art of storytelling and its applications in the public library.  Norfolk will share tips for choosing and developing age-appropriate stories, effective use of voice, body language, gesture, and facial expression as well as using oral storytelling to enliven and enrich library programming.  Attendees will leave with at least one story ready to tell.

Free parking is available in the library’s parking garage accessible from St. Clair St. This workshop is sponsored by SWON, the Midwest Arts Fund, and Dayton Metro Library. For questions about the workshop, please contact Mandie Burns, phone: 937.496.8507 email: MBurns@daytonmetrolibrary.org, for help.
