Giving Storytime a Tune-Up: Music Activities to Support Engagement and Understanding

Wednesday, 4/3/2019
  • 3:00 PM (Eastern)

Music activities are more than fun! They're a natural, developmentally appropriate way to build auditory processing skills, auditory memory, and other skills critical to early language and literacy. When children are actively engaged in helping to tell a story with music, their literary experience is more meaningful and empowering. Learn how to use the power of music to increase children's involvement and focus.

Learning Outcomes

  • Participants will know:
    • four distinct strategies to incorporate music into storytime.
  • Participants will understand:
    • the importance of music activities to early literacy
    • how music activities boost engagement and learning
  • Participants will be able to:
    • lead music activities including singing, playing instruments (inexpensive or free), movement, and musical improvisation with their storytime groups.

Who Should Attend

All staff serving children and their caregivers, as well as library school students, will benefit from participating in this webinar.
