What's a SIG?

We know that the library community encompasses a vast spectrum of interests, specializations, and disciplines, and we want to help you to connect with each other.

SWON Libraries hosts a wide variety of Special Interest Groups (SIGs) where our members can join with others in the library community to:

  • Expand their professional networks
  • Make the most of new technologies and trends
  • Delve deeply into cutting-edge issues
  • Develop practical strategies for addressing the challenges facing libraries today
  • Advance their professional development goals
  • Mentor or be mentored
  • Receive library materials in exchange for product reviews*

SIGs are free and open to all library staff.

Want to join a SIG?

SIGs are open to library staff from all types of libraries -- big, small, rural, urban, whatever and wherever -- and we have groups for public library staff, school library staff, and academic library staff. There's SIGs for Technical Services and Teen Services. Just about any type of services!

See the list of our current SIGs below to find a SIG that's right for you!

Check out our calendar to register for upcoming SIG meetings. To keep up with the latest news for your SIG, make sure and click on the SIG name below to find out how to officially join the group!

Don't see any SIGs that suit your needs? See one but it's just too far away? That's okay, you can start your own!

So, how do I start a new SIG?

SWON Libraries welcomes the development of new Special Interest Groups related to new topics of interest, or the revival of old SIGs that have fallen by the wayside.

If you have an idea and you would like to be the convener of a new SIG, we’d love to help you get it started.  Contact us at 513-751-4422 or email us at info@swonlibraries.org

*Thanks goes to METRO for their clear descriptions of SIGs for library consortia.
