Internet Librarian 2018 - Community Parters: Beyond Outreach!

Whether they serve indigenous people, investment bankers, students, government policy makers, families, researchers, lawyers or doctors, internet librarians provide an array of services to their communities through numerous channels: brick and mortar libraries, buses, digital platforms, classrooms, makerspaces, face to face, and more. Now Internet Librarians are going beyond these roles and service programs to get to the heart of their communities, to be integral to the success of their communities.  Join us as we hear from extraordinary librarians and their communities, look at new community models, and see what exciting products and services they are creating and the suppliers with whom they are partnering.

Discover the insights, strategies and practices that allow us to push the envelope in expanding the net, building solid connections to the Internet of Things, managing libraries and digital information, and enhancing the information sharing and learning experience of people in our communities.
Meet and hear from leading “movers and shakers” in the information industry in all types of environments —leaders in the information industry are integrating content and delighting their clients, organizing and managing digital content in creative ways, setting the context for excellence in information utilization in their organizations, revolutionizing the roles of info pros, creating new learning and discovery areas with makerspaces, building strong collaborative communities among their customers and colleagues, and using new technologies in exciting ways. Gain access to leading-edge companies in the showcase offering visitors a choice of products covering all aspects of internet technologies, including content providers, online services, software, document and web delivery systems, search engines, and more. Network with your peers during interactive events, including special evening programs, receptions, dine-arounds, and connect on social media before, during, and after the conference.

Attend the most comprehensive conference for library and information professionals interested in technology to discover the insights, strategies and practices that allow us to push the envelope in expanding the net, building solid connections to the Internet of Things, managing libraries and digital information, and enhancing the information sharing and learning experience of people in our communities.  Internet Librarian 2018 provides attendees with opportunities to meet and hear from leading “movers and shakers” in the information industry in all types of environments.

2018 ALSC National Institute - All Aboard! Embracing Advocacy & Inclusion.

Join more than 300 fellow children's librarians and educators for ALSC's National Institute September 27-29 this year! The Institute is everything you need in one place: programming, keynotes, networking and more.  This intensive learning opportunity with a youth services focus is designed for front-line youth library staff, children’s literature experts, education and library school faculty members, as well as other interested adults.  It is one of the only conferences devoted solely to children's librarianship, literature and technology and takes place every two years. Download the brochure today! New this year, the "Big Ideas" sessions will kick off Thursday and Saturday’s activities with top-of-mind topics discussed by industry leaders.

ALSC National Institute 2018 will take place at the centrally-located Hilton Cincinnati Netherland Plaza. Learn more about booking your housing and travel as well as exploring our city. Included in your registration are keynote presentations featuring authors and children's literature experts, including the Breakfast for Bill event which is sponsored by the William C. Morris Endowment. At the Institute, participants will be treated to a wide variety of programming focused on children's library service. All programs are offered twice so that participants will not have to choose between two excellent sessions!

Registration for the National Institute is now open! Registration categories exist for ALSC members, ALA members, non-members, students and groups. To learn more about registration and the early bird discount, click here.

A preliminary schedule for the Institute is available here.

Opioids in Communities, Libraries in Response events will feature Resources in Your Backyard

Libraries play a central role in the health and well-being of the communities they serve.  But, as we consider how to respond to the challenges we see, remember that we don’t have to go it alone.  During the “Resources in Your Backyard” session, attendees at any of the upcoming Opioids in Communities, Libraries in Response events will have the chance to hear from local representatives of Project DAWN—a community-based overdose education and naloxone distribution program.  Staff from Project DAWN will share information about local and regional resources as well as how to spot the signs of an opioid overdose.
For additional information, and to register, click here:  Follow the events on Facebook and Twitter via #LibrariesRespond.

These programs are made possible thanks to an LSTA grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), awarded by the State Library of Ohio.
