Bullet Journaling 101

If you're a Pinterest user, you've probably seen lots of "Bullet Journal Inspiration" and layouts and wondered if it could help you or your patrons or students. A Bullet Journal is a customizable and forgiving organization system that can be your to-do list, sketchbook, notebook, or diary, but most likely, it will be all of the above.

If you've looked into Bullet Journaling before, you may have become overwhelmed by the intricate and artistic layouts shared via Instagram and Pinterest as well as the time it must take to start a journal. I'm here to tell you that it doesn't have to be that complicated or time consuming! Personally, I use my bullet journal as a calendar, planner, to-do list, and diary, as well as a habit, activity, and mood tracker. I do minimal decorating (with washi tape and colored pens) and I'm not a very great artist! Your own journal can be as simple or complex as you want to make it - from a single black pen on paper, to color-coding and drawing, or even using stencils for layouts. There are suggested basic sections that can go into each Bullet Journal, but nothing is required. This is a flexible system that you can make work for YOU!

Are you ready to get started on your own BuJo? Join me on Wednesday, November 7th, to discover what a bullet journal is, how it works, and how you can facilitate an introduction class at your own library or school. In this two hour level-up lab, you will receive a starter notebook (a small lined notebook) to take home with you. We will go over the basics of what goes into a Bullet Journal (including a very handy quick reference guide), see many examples of how others use their journals, and share ideas about how we may use our own in work and life. If you would like to begin work on your decorating during the lab, please feel free to bring any supplies you'd like to use: washi tape, pens, stickers, stencils, etc. If you would rather, you are also welcome to purchase and bring your own bullet journal as well (a dot grid, lined, or even graph paper notebook will work).

Fall Summer Reading Program Workshop 2018 - A Universe of Stories

Next month, join us for an energetic and STEM-filled workshop on the 2019 Summer Reading theme "A Universe of Stories."

Presentations and Speakers:

STEM @ Your Library

Using techniques learned through the NASA@ My Library grant, we will discuss inexpensive ways to incorporate STEM into children’s and teen programming. Some topics include space, engineering, weather and exploring the moon. We will also offer suggestions on where to find free resources for STEM training and activities.

Moon Magic!
Space offers a whole universe of programming options, but many good ones are as close as the moon! View some wonderful moon-related books, look at free programming materials and resources, and try some space-tacular hands-on activities. Weather permitting, we’ll take a peek at the sun, as well!

SWON in Space
Find out how you can use SWON's Tech to Lend materials to learn about space! From LittleBits to VR and AR, our Emergent Trends & Technology Educator, Emily Wages, will show you all the ways you can make use of our TTL program next summer.

Exploring Space through Local Libraries
This presentation will explore the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador program in detail. Additionally, the presenters will also share the Science-Technology Activities & Resources Net (STAR_Net), which is a production of the Space Science Institute & National Center for Interactive Learning (NCIL) in collaboration with the American Library Association, the Lunar and Planetary Institute, and the Afterschool Alliance. The STAR_Net is funded through the National Science Foundation (NSF), NASA, and the National Institutes of Health (SEPA). Finally, the presenters will detail how the Wright Library in Oakwood has offered space-related programming by utilizing the NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador program.

Sponsored in part through LSTA funds awarded by the State Library of Ohio.
