Launch a FREE Girls Who Code Club!

SWON is partnering with Girls Who Code again this year to bring free computer science opportunities to girls across our community. We would love for your school or library to host a Club

Girls Who Code Clubs are FREE programs for 3rd-5th or 6th-12th grade girls to join a sisterhood of supportive peers and role models who use computer science to change the world. Clubs are led by Facilitators, who can be teachers, computer scientists, librarians, parents, or volunteers from any background or field. Many Facilitators have NO technical experience and learn to code alongside their Club members. Any 18+ adult who is passionate about the movement is eligible to lead a Club - that means you!

To learn more about Girls Who Code programs, you can sign up for a Girls Who Code Webinar here. Join one of these webinars to learn more about our Clubs program and how to apply. During this webinar, you'll learn:

- The mission of Girls Who Code
- Clubs curriculum and program model
- How to launch a Club
- How to become a Community Partner and launch multiple Clubs in your community

You can also take a look at a step-by-step guide on how to start a Girls Who Code Club.

Please note this info session is for anyone who has not already applied to start a Club and is interested in learning more about our Clubs program in the United States. If you have already applied to start a Club, please check your email for next steps, including a link to our training webinar from clubs@girlswhocode.com.

APPLY TO START A CLUB HERE*

*Please Note: It is important that you indicate our partnership affiliation (SWON) on the Clubs Application in order to receive partnership benefits!

As a Girls Who Code Community Partner, any Clubs in our network are eligible to receive additional partnership benefits by indicating SWON Libraries on the Clubs Application!

Current 2018-19 Clubs have received an email with the new renewal process, where they can click the renewal button on the left side of Girls Who Code HQ.

Please let me know if you have any questions about how to get started, and thanks for supporting our partnership with Girls Who Code!

Ethnic Librarians & Staff Special Interest Group (ELS-SIG)

After an extended hiatus, the Ethnic Librarians and Staff (ELS) Special Interest Group is back and raring to go. ELS was formed in 2008 to provide a safe space to discuss issues and concerns of librarians and staff from underrepresented ethnic groups in all library settings and roles.

Join us for our kick-off meeting to connect with other ethnic/POC librarians and staff and discuss future activities and projects that support diversity and inclusion.

PCI Webinar - Adult Programming for the Non-Programmer

Adult programming is an important part of library services, but with such a broad age-category, it can be hard to know where to start.  If you have limited experience with adult programming, and are unsure how to focus your programming efforts, this is the webinar for you! In this one-hour interactive webinar, Jennifer Parsick, a manager with the Osceola Library System since 2012, will guide you through planning a program, even if you’ve never done one before. Topics we’ll discuss include:

  • Learning how to focus on one program at a time
  • Planning the program from start to finish
  • Pitching the program to the decision-makers
  • Hosting the program

Jennifer Parsick has been a manager with the Osceola Library System since 2012.  She has taught all levels of patrons, from retired senior citizens through Stetson University’s Lifelong Learning Program, to a masters’ track library science class at Florida State University.  She has been published in the CSLP Summer Reading manual two years in a row, and presented at the 2014 Florida Library Association Annual Conference.

Join Jennifer for this practical and interactive webinar and let your programming skills flourish!

Can't attend on the date and time listed? Anyone who registers in advance for PCI Webinars will receive an archived copy of the presentation for later viewing.
